Fast cars and Furballs
One of the most amazing things about being part of the One50 Group family is that not only do we help people get on track with their mortgages, business and insurance needs, we also get to help families who’re going through a really tough time by giving special kids an incredible day out they’ll always remember.
Dream Days for deserving kids
Here at One50 Group, we’re proud to have our very own charity – One50 Dream Days – whose objective is to bring a fun experience, or Dream Day, to a deserving child or family whose lives are affected by a disability or serious illness.
A lot of organization and thought goes into planning these events, involving a dedicated staff member as well as many of the One50 crew, who gladly give up their own time to pitch in where needed. Our most recent Dream Day was particularly special because it involved hiding a very cute furry friend at our Albany HQ for a couple of weeks, which everybody enjoyed immensely as we all took turns for a cuddle.
The furball in question was a miniature schnauzer puppy, who was about to be a big surprise for a young boy called Reuben …
Reuben is an 11-year-old from Auckland’s beautiful Hibiscus Coast. Two days after Christmas 2017, he was sadly diagnosed with leukemia. As a result of his condition and treatment, Reuben has also since developed steroid-induced diabetes. He lives with his incredible family – dad Robin, mum Gwen, older brother Jacob, big sister Abigail and little brother Jade. Robin works as a designer and Gwen has recently left her job at North Shore Hospital to care for Reuben.
Reuben loves animals, he was recently awarded a fish tank for being an absolute champ about handling needles as well as wireless fencing system dogs. He’s also a huge fan of the Tin Tin franchise, as well as miniature schnauzers. Sadly, Reuben’s family recently had to have their family dog put down due to an illness.

Let the hunt begin!
We’ve decided to take Reuben and his family on a wild treasure hunt around Auckland, where some fun adventures along the way will eventually lead him to an amazing treasure any young lad would adore!
The Dream Day starts early on Saturday June 23, when a group of high-performance sports cars (including a Lamborghinis and Mercedes) arrive at Reuben’s family home to pick them up. Their help is required to solve a mystery and find some treasure – just like a Tin Tin adventure!
The first clue leads the family to Manly, where it appears the treasure could be out at sea? They all jump into a Sealegs (an amphibious boat) to take a closer look, but this just leads to another clue. So everyone hops back in the cars and heads out to Ellerslie, where the NZ Police K9 unit is waiting for them. Reuben and his family get a tour of the base, a demo of the dogs in action and even a ride in a police car.
But no treasure!
A police officer hands Reuben his next clue, and off they go again.
What’s in the box?
Back up north again, this time to Orewa – where a sizzling BBQ is being prepared and the One50 Group team and family are waiting. There’s also some funny Tin Tin characters there to lend a hand. After eating their fill, a final clue leads Reuben around the park to a large tree, where underneath lies a big box tied up with a bow. The treasure at last!
Inside the box, of course, sits the cutest miniature schnauzer puppy, just waiting for his new furever family to find him. Reuben was overjoyed and has named his new puppy Monty.
We hope you had a fantastic day, Reuben and family – we sure did, too.
Onwards and upwards!
